Following the disastrous prom of 2017, Manaka received Gateau as a gift of sorts. Given to her by Team Rocket, Gateau is loyal to the people in charge and always looking out for their best interests. In the case of his current assignment, that means whipping Manaka's unruly team into a cohesive unit. This is, of course, an impossible dream, and for the most part his attempts have been met with nothing but frustration. Gateau doesn't give up so easily, though. If asked about the progress he's made, he'll grimly declare that fights are down by 10% since he was added to Manaka's roster.
